Chapter 5
The Adventure Begins
Drilla lay sleepily in her bed of puck moss, Glarca nursing happily. He now wore the black fur garments of the adults and an orange necklace. It was now five months in to the trip, and the crew was getting restless. Drilla sighed heavily when she heard Putluck and Notac bickering.
“What do you mean you forgot to feed the Zats! Without them, where will I get my morning eggs? Thanks to you Notac, they’ve driven their spikes right through the bathroom wall!”
“Hush, the both of you!” Gonet snapped, “if you don’t keep it down, you’ll wake Drilla and the baby!” At that moment, Drilla came in to the room carrying little Glarca.
“Beautiful day!” she said, smirking at Notac as if to say, “you’re in trouble now.” Gonet glared at Putluck and Notac, then took Glarca from Drilla’s arms. He began to cry, and Gonet gently shushed him.
“Come on now.” He cooed, “you have to give your mother a break. She needs to eat to you know.” As he said this, Gwana and Marca came skidding in to the room.
“Breakfast is ready!” they both shrieked with delight.
“Oh, and the Zats are contained and fed.” Marca said with a wink at Notac. Everyone laughed, then walked in to the kitchen.
Two weeks in to the sixth month, the Zonics began to see a blue planet growing larger and larger.
“Oooo!” Marca said in aw, “is that our destination?”
“Yes.” Gonet said nervously. “It looks okay from the outside, but there’s know telling what could be on it. We’ll just have to wait and see. In a few more weeks we’ll be there.” Drilla sighed sadly as she looked at the large blue planet. She sure missed Zoto.
Two weeks later, Drilla, Gwana, and Marca were awakened by the sounds of the engines revving up. As they walked in to the control room and attempted to ask Putluck what was going on, Gonet said,
“were preparing to land, be seated.” As they took their seats, Gonet said,
“the signal’s coming from that white blob there, try and land there if you can. Go slowly now, and whatever you do, don’t crash in to the water. We have know way of knowing how deep their ocean is.”
Flan stood on his tower, looking up at the inky black sky. As he watched the stars, he suddenly cried,
“Johnson, come, come here now! You have to see this!” Johnson came running up the steps and said,
“What, what’s going on?” He stopped talking when he saw the ball of blue light slowly making its way across the sky, heading straight for their beach.
“What, what is it?” Johnson said, staring at the large blob of light getting closer and closer.
“I don’t know.” Flan said, but I have a hunch.” Suddenly, the light disappeared all together.
“Where did it go?” Johnson said, bewildered.
“It disappeared somewhere near the woods. Come Johnson, get the truck and the equipment, let’s go check it out.”
Drilla held her breath as the ship shuddered, then was still.
“Were here.” Gonet said seriously. “Were only here to checkout the planet and see if the beings who tried to communicate with us are hostel. If they are, then we’ll leave immediately. If not, then we’ll attempt to make contact. Drilla, I want you to stay on the ship. Putluck, Notac, come with me, Gwana, Marca stay with Drilla.”
“What!” Drilla protested, “but Gonet, I’ve been on this ship for six months, can’t I get out and stretch my legs?”
“Drilla!” Gonet said harshly, “this isn’t some fun excursion, this isn’t a game!”
“I know that Gonet!” Drilla said shortly, “I won’t go anywhere, I just want to stretch my legs.” Gonet sighed, and was about to say something when Putluck cut in.
“Let her go Gonet.” He said gently, “after all, you did force her to come.” Gonet sighed then said,
“Alright, but stay close to the ship, and stay close to Gwana and Marca at all times. Am I clear Drilla?”
“Yes Gonet.” She said, giving him a sweet smile.
“Alright then.” Gonet said gently, kissing her on the cheek, and little Glarca on the top of the head. “And don’t let Glarca out of your sight!” As he said this, he exited the ship followed by Drilla and the rest as they entered a strange new world.
Chapter 6
Encounters and Capture
As the Zonics exited their ship, all excitement evaporated instantly, and they became alert. They had landed in a clearing with woods all around. The sun was just starting to peak its way over the horizon when Gonet spoke.
“What a strange planet. It’s so green here, and none of the plants make noise. It’s much to quiet.” As the Zonics walked farther from the ship, Gonet suddenly stopped.
“Stop!” he commanded, “I heard something.” As he said this, two balls of white light appeared, and two creatures stepped in to view.
“What are those?” Marca said, her mouth hanging open. “They look a lot like us.”
“Yes, they do.” Gonet said, “but their not.” As he said this, the two figures began to move towards them. “Every one, back to the ship, now! If we get separated, use the devices I gave you! Drilla, go with Marca and Gwana, now! Hurry, go now!”
“Come on Johnson!” Flan cried, as he sped along after the Zonics, “don’t loose them!” As they chased after the Zonics, they came to a large clearing where a large red iron space ship with blue lights sat.
“Would you look at that!” Flan cried, slowly inching his way forward. “Didn’t I tell you Johnson, didn’t I tell you? I told you aliens exist! Oh this is the happiest day of my life! We must capture one to show to the world! Come, let’s get closer!”
“But sir! They look terrified, and on alert! Can’t we just take a picture or something?”
“Of course not Johnson, you stupid fool! Their probably not that intelligent, which will make our job a lot easier. Come on, let’s do this!”
“Drilla, move now! Come on Drilla, you have to move!” Gonet said, both urgently and gently. Drilla stood, frozen with fear as she watched the strange creatures advancing towards them. She held Glarca tight to her chest, her legs unable to move.
“Gonet!” Putluck cried, “we have to go now! They have dangerous weapons! I’ll grab Drilla, go now!”
“Nooo!” Gonet cried, motioning franticly to Drilla and attempting to get to her but was stopped by a loud bang, “not without Drilla!” Before he could do anything, Gonet was dragged back on to the ship, leaving Drilla alone out in the open.
“What are you doing!” Gonet cried in anguish, “we have to get Drilla!” Even as he said this though, he new it was hopeless. With eyes full of tears, he watched as a creature with blond hair grabbed Drilla and Glarca and shoved them in to a large box that moved, then she was gone from view. The last thing he saw before the ship took flight was her mouth open in terror as she mouthed,
“Gonet, please don’t leave me!”
